In order to effectively work with youth, it is important to have an understanding of what influences their beliefs, attitudes, and behavior with regard to alcohol and drug use. This is important in order to: (1) be more mindful of these issues when working with clients, (2) have a context and understanding of the beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors clients may be manifesting or describing, (3) perform a better comprehensive assessment, and (4) facilitate the development of appropriate responses and interventions while the youth is receiving services as well as after.

This workshop will present information regarding the contributing factors that influence the beliefs, attitudes, and behavior of young people with respect to alcohol, illicit drugs, and non medical use of prescription drugs as well as poly-substance abuse patterns.
