By the end of this in person workshop, participants will be able to:
* Define Art Therapy and who is able to provide Art Therapy
* Identify at least two theoretical and historical foundations for Art Therapy
* Incorporate at least three new Art Therapy techniques into services
* Link Art Therapy techniques to treatment goals
* Incorporate at least three new reflective practices into services to expand the client's own metaphor
* Determine how to provide Art Therapy techniques which are culturally competent in the practitioner's agency
This workshop will build the basic foundation of art therapy techniques. Through a focus on hands-on learning, participants will be able to better understand the underpinnings of incorporating experiential therapies into culturally competent counseling services. Interwoven throughout the workshops will be reflective practices that allow the growth of the client's own metaphor. Reflection techniques are much more than parroting back what a client says or asking "and how did that feel?" By focusing on reflective practices and expanding metaphors, the client will feel heard and understood. Conversely, the provider will also understand their client's world more deeply, leading to positive growth and changes. We will focus on the history, theory and foundational techniques of Art Therapy. Attendees will leave with practical activities they can incorporate into their therapy services with children, teens and adults.
